Reconsidering SchoolArts' ClipCards

SchoolArts' ClipCards feature has been in the magazine for some time; they were originally suggested by Laura Chapman. Each month SchoolArts offers one each for Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle School, and High School levels.  They follow a standard format with headings of The Art Problem, Objectives, Materials, Procedures, and Assessment and show only one image.

As we begin to plan next year's issues, we would like to get some feedback on them. What do you think of them? Do you use them? Do you save them? Do you have any suggestions as to how we could improve them? Would you be interested in writing some? Please let us know your thoughts!

  1. my opinion of the cards is mixed:

    i actually really like them. i like that they can be removed from the magazine and that they could be collected in a rolodex or something. they change the format of the magazine and that makes the magazine more interesting and enjoyable as an object.

    that said, i have never actually cut them out. so, as nice as they are, i have never used them as intended.

    MAYBE a solution would be to include the mini-lessons in the magazine but not on the heavier paper. so that we can still have them in print but also offer that page of clipcards online each month. that way, each teacher/subscriber could print them on heavy paper and cut the cards on their own if they want to use them that way.

  2. I used to cut them out, and then I'd never use them. I had a huge box full of them, but there wasn't a convenient way to access what I wanted. I like things that can either be put in a folder or punched to put in a binder.

    Lately, the lessons I find on them honestly don't really grab me, and often the image doesn't really jive with what the text says. I'd rather see them left out, but have really cool lessons in the magazine be printed in a way to remove and save - in other words, don't start another lesson idea on the back of the previous one.
