More from Celebrating Pueblo Art and Culture

Though we loved our time working with micaecous clay with Dawning Pollen, our Celebrating Pueblo Art and Culture seminar in Santa Fe was also filled with other excursions and experiences. For example, on our return to Santa Fe from Taos, we stopped at Roxanne Swentzell's Tower Gallery and the Poeh Center.

On Friday we visited the Institute of American Indian Art Museum downtown across from the cathedral to see contemporary Native American art and then had a wonderful presentation at the Andrea Fisher Gallery by Andrea herself. In my opinion, Andrea Fisher has the very best Native American gallery in Santa Fe and it is a great place to learn to recognize quality in Native American Pottery. She has pottery ranging from historic artists such as Maria Martinez and Helen Cordero to the contemporary artists Virgil Ortiz, Diego Romero, and Roxanne Swentzell.

On Saturday we traveled to Santa Domingo Pueblo to visit Raymond and Gabby Tenorio. Raymond is an accomplished jeweler and we felt so honored to be invited to his home and treated to a wonderful feast prepared by his family.

On Sunday, we visited both MIAC, the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, and the Wheelwright Museum, shown here.

In addition to working with clay, weaving was a hands-on activity throughout the week.

At the end, I know I was not ready to leave! But we have already started planning for next summer. Stay tuned for next summer!
