These photos were taken in Tucson last year at their annual Days of the Dead celebration and procession. This first shot is a public ofrenda in the middle of a shopping center. You can learn more about the holiday on an earlier post. It is to honor the memory of people you love who have died.
More detail of the same ofrenda. More is better!
Bread that looks like bones on top. Notice the cigarettes? You place things on the ofrenda that your loved one liked, along with flowers, candles, sugar skulls, and photographs of the deceased.
Another detail. The aromas of the food, candles, and flowers guide the spirits back home but the living get to actually eat and drink.
