Balboa Park, the Place to Go when at NAEA San Diego

Balboa Park

My husband, sister, and I were just in San Diego for my brother's wedding but we did manage to squeeze in some time to preview sites to recommend to art teachers coming to NAEA in San Diego in March. The weather was fantastic - warm but not hot during the day and pleasantly cool at night.

There are museums galore. A brochure listed 40 in San Diego but you'll find 17 within walking distance of each other in Balboa Park (share a cab to get there). My favorite at Balboa Park is the Mingei International Museum but you also should not miss the San Diego Museum of Art(online free curriculum resources) and the San Diego Museum of Man (free online teacher resources).

Mission San Diego de Alcala

We also visited the Mission San Diego de Alcala, I believe the first mission established in California (this would also require a cab ride). Absolutely beautiful gardens and structures. And the sky really is that blue! The climate here really reminds me of Santa Fe.

In my next post, I'll share the Mingei International Museum at Balboa Park. Ready to start planning your schedule to experience as much as possible? Check out the NAEA convention website for scheduled events and preview the exhibits at the websites I have included here. Hope to see you in San Diego!
