Santa Fe International Folk Art Market: Augustin Cruz Prudencio

Augustin Cruz Prudencio is proud to display his family in the Mexico "black book" of fine artists at his booth, number 87.

I was happy to see Augustin Cruz Prudencio again today at the Santa Fe International Folk Art Market. Augustin visited our Folk Art Extravaganza participants last year and will do so again on Monday. His skilled woodcarvings have won him various awards in his home state of Oaxaca and nationally. Augustin's wife is an excellent painter and collaborates with him to create innovative, intricately painted wood carvings.

Here is one example of the incredibly detailed carved and painted pieces he and his wife create in collaboration. Augustin learned his art from his father, Agustin Cruz Tinoco, who shares booth 87 with him.

I was also excited to see that Augustin had displayed in his booth the two articles in which he has appeared in SchoolArts Magazine.

In my May/June 2014 Editor Letter, I wrote about our visit to Augustin's family home in Oaxaca last November.

We look forward to future collaborations with Augustin and his family and their continued and well-deserved success!
