In my last post I wrote about the Ralph T. Coe Foundation in Santa Fe, New Mexico and their focus on Native American Arts. The special exhibition at the Foundation right now is A View from Here: Northwest Coast Native Arts and the work is exquisite. The pieces on display are from the collection of Richard and Joan Chodosh.
My favorite piece in this exhibition is the Button Blanket by Shirley Hunt Ford. Button blankets illustrate the wearer's clan and crest. They are usually made from wool with appliqué designs outlined with buttons.
Eugene Hunt, Komokwa/King of the Undersea
Tony Hunt, Jr., Kwagiulth Octopus
Patrick Amos, Frog
Gene Brabant, Bella Cool Fool
Richard Hunt, Eagle Sun Mask
Wayne Alfred, Sea Monster Mask
